Questions and Responses

WHAT ARE THE PROJECT PRIORITIES?

We have designed this campaign to tackle two major priorities in two phases.  The top priority of Phase 1: Raise the Roof is addressing the flat roofs over our Administration and Christian Education wings (the flat roofs on our gym building are not currently posing problems.  The roof must be addressed to protect the building and is our top priority.  The other projects in phase one require much less funding.

The top priority of Phase 2: Pave the Way is the parking lot. While in major disrepair, it falls behind the roof repair because it poses no threat to our facilities.

WHEN WILL WORK BEGIN?

Our hope is to begin work as soon as possible.  If we have funds secured, we will schedule work to be done on the Administration and Education Wing roofs this summer or fall.  Work of the sanctuary will likely come in stages, beginning in the summer.  We will not have access to the expansion room for KidsCrossing until late summer, so work on that project will have to wait until it is available.

Throughout the next year we will continue to pursue funding for the entire project.  Hopefully by this time next year we will have a good idea how quickly we can schedule work on the project.  Ideally, this work would commence summer or fall 2026.

WHAT IF WE DON’T RAISE ENOUGH MONEY?

We are hopeful that we can raise enough funds to cover all of our project needs.  However, in the event we do not, we will consider financing options.  The congregation will be informed along the way as to our progress. Since this is a two-year campaign, we will hopefully be able to cover the roof repair 2025 Summer/Fall and will have time to build more funds in order to address the parking lot in the Summer/Fall of either 2026 or 2027.  We are intentionally taking a “wait and see” approach for two reasons. First, because we can – we believe we will be able to pay cash for the roof repair in 2025.  Second, because we want to limit the amount of debt we incur – if waiting longer means less debt, that’s good.

WHAT IS PREFERRED: MORE FUNDING OVER TIME OR LESS MONEY SOONER?

This is difficult to answer and may depend more on individual contributor scenarios than CrossWalk’s timeline.  If we learn that we will be able to pay cash for all of the projects if we don’t begin the parking lot project until 2027 or later, that may provide good cause to hold off.  However, waiting too long is not preferably, either, as we don’t want our parking lot to become hazardous.  The more the Stewards know about potential funding, the wiser the choices will be.

HOW DO ESTATE GIFTS HELP THIS CAMPAIGN?

Including CrossWalk in one’s estate allows the contributor to potentially provide enormous help toward our projects.  For some, the estate gift will represent the largest single donation a person makes, while also potentially providing for other heirs.  Especially if we incur debt, and estate gift can provide tremendous benefit to CrossWalk’s mission as it could help eliminate an entire loan, freeing up resources to help build our ministry instead of paying interest.

Depending on the size of the estate, such gifts could benefit CrossWalk’s future substantially. Housing costs are prohibitive for future staff. Providing a home or funding to help with a downpayment for future staff could make future roles more attractive.  Gifts of securities (stocks, bonds, etc.) are also very wise as the donor gets all of the benefit without suffering Capital gains taxation.
